In publishing, as in any other business, packaging is an important part of marketing. How you present a product is what sells, and all advertising experts know that the upper left position on a page (or a shelf) is an important place where the buyer's eye will focus.
So now imagine that you walk into a bookstore and approach the section where Local Interest books are found. As an author, I did exactly this at Coles Bookstore in Powell River. It is the largest bookstore in the town. My reception by the store manager on the previous day had been superb, and she expressed delight with handling my book. Thus, the next day, I walked into the store to make sure that my book was properly displayed on the shelves. What I found definitely met with my wildest expectations. It was a moment in time for a new author that will be remembered forever. With community support like this, how can a new author possibly feel more appreciated?
